Anyone who knows me knows that I love reading. I don’t necessarily talk about all of my readings that much online, though, because…actually, I can’t really figure out a very solid reason for that. So here we are.
Why No Poetry?
“But why don’t you talk about poetry? Poetry is life! Even Robin Williams said so in Dead Poet's Society!"*
Sure. Poetry is great. I read it on occasion. I basically know what I like to read. (Some favorites are Pablo Neruda, Robert Frost, and Robert Pinsky, if you’re curious.) I even try writing it every now and then.
When it all comes down to it, though, I really don’t have terribly much to say about it. I think I’m moderately well-read/well-versed when it comes to prose – hence this blog. As for poetry, though…I just don’t spend as much time with it. I don’t know the lingo. I don’t really know what people are looking for when they decide what poetry is “good” or “literary” or whatever. I don't know who the big/fashionable poets are right now.
Maybe I’m just not hip enough. Shucks.
That said, who knows - maybe I'll say a few words about poetry here and there. It's simply not something that will be a major focus of this blog.
*By the way, if you haven't yet, you really, really need to see this movie.
